FAQs

Who do you serve? Young adults - age 18 and older Adults unable to travel, elderly, medically fragile Homebuyers and sellers Title companies, escrow agents, real estate agents Lawyers Busy professionals, businesses Financial advisors and more...

What do I need for my notary appointment? All documents (unsigned) needing to be notarized, all signers must be present & have driver's license(s)

What is a power of attorney and why does my young adult need one? Parents frequently assume they have authority to handle decisions for their young adults/college age children if an unexpected illness or accident occurs that leaves them incapacitated. Parents no longer have authority to make medical, educational or financial decisions for their children once they reach 18 years of age. Powers of attorney give parents the authority to help their adult children manage financial, legal and health care decisions as needed. Without a POA, your family may be required to ask a court to appoint a guardian/conservator to handle decisions, which can be complex and expensive should your young adult be incapacitated.

What age does my child need to be to sign a power of attorney? Your child must be at least 18 to sign a power of attorney.

Who should be my child's powers of attorney/agents? POA forms ask for health care and financial agents. Usually, the parents are listed for either or both; similar to a life insurance policy, listing secondary agent(s) is a good practice in case something happens to the primary agent(s). Legally the named agent must be an adult (someone 18 years or older). You should choose agents who are competent to make decisions on your child's behalf and in his/her best interests.

What is HIPAA? HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) was created to protect the privacy of our health data; it prohibits health care providers from sharing health care data unless written consent is signed by the patient (the HIPAA form).

What is a FERPA Authorization? A FERPA authorization allows a student to give permission for parents to receive certain education-related information, such as grades, transcripts, academic records, billing, registration information, & communication from the school. Some schools have their own FERPA form which can be completed during orientation.

What if my child attends college out of state? If your child attends college outside of Texas, our form(s) is/are usually acceptable. A power of attorney validly executed under the laws in the state in which it is signed will generally be honored in other states. However, some states require their own version of certain documents, so it might be good to have the other state's form(s) on hand. Many states have similar laws and form(s) may look similar to the Texas form(s).

What do I need for my document preservation appointment? You will need access to all important documents (such as will(s), POA(s), medical directive(s), mortgage(s), lease agreement(s), vehicle title(s), loan(s), passport(s), birth certificate(s), social security card(s), etc) and online accounts (have passwords available).

Meet Sally Mercer -Trusted Mobile Notary Expert

Sally is a native Houstonian, but was born in Pasadena, Texas. She moved to Pearland in 2005 when she got engaged to her husband, Scott. They have been married 20 years and have two boys. She attended Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State), graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies with Spanish & Business minors and selected as the LBJ Outstanding Senior.

Sally’s professional background began in the oil & gas industry and morphed into event planning, activating sponsorships, and volunteerism through her charity work. One year after she married, she started as a CSR/producer for her father-in-law in order to learn the insurance business; the plan was to operate the agency once he retired, which he did in November 2010. Sally has her property & casualty license, life & health license and Series 6 & 63 licenses. After 14 years of serving the community as an insurance agent, she decided to retire.

After taking a year off, Sally decided to start her business as a mobile notary, having offered this to her insurance clients for the past decade. In addition, hearing client stories of the unexpected happening too often, she decided to add document preservation to her new business.

Sally's hobbies include spending quality time with family, traveling, Visions & Pearland Women in Business book clubs, watching movies and volunteering. She is currently serving as Secretary of Women Leading Success, a non-profit based in Pearland helping single women and children achieve independent living. She also volunteers for the Pride of Pearland Band & Color Guard in several capacities, one of which is raising funds for their trip to the 100th Macy's Day Parade in NYC for Thanksgiving 2026.

We had a great experience with the process for documents when my son turned 18. It was seamless and they were notarized during the session. I highly recommend!
